Zither

Sometimes I’m asked to tune other instruments in addition to the piano. I’ve been tuning this zither for quite a while now. As you can see, there have been odd strings replaced over the years but it is still an attractive and interesting instrument. I’m extremely fortunate that we have one of the country’s leading string makers on our doorstep in Suffolk and he has been able to help me with my more difficult requests. The zither is around one hundred years old so is not tuned up to concert pitch. The client also has a piano dating from around 1880 so I tune them both nearer to the Baroque pitch of the 17th-18th century.
